How-To: Optin Monster | Create a Promo Banner

Access Optin Monster by going to: https://app.optinmonster.com/campaigns/

  • Navigate to the correct site you are working on on the left hand side of the screen

  • Once you selected your site, the quickest way to make a new banner is to duplicate a current one so the formatting is already done for you.

    • Make sure you are picking a style that works for what you are promoting.

    • Promos should use the “Floating Bar” style and appear at the bottom of the page

      • Any variation from this style needs approval from the UX team

  • When you duplicate your banner you need to rename it.

    • Naming convention should include the channel (if channel specific) and a very brief description of what the banner is

      • Examples:

        • PPC | State Renewal 15% Off

        • Social | Influencer | Morgan20

        • NNW | 25% Off Banner

  • Once you click create duplicate you will be taken to the design page. On this page you will update the text to match the new promotion. You will edit it inline on the banner.

    • You shouldn’t need to add any additional features from the left hand navigation.

  • After the text is updated click “Display Rules” at the top navigation

  • In “Display Rules” you will create the rules for how the banner will show up. You can pick specific pages, UTM parameters and dates and times.

  • In this example the banner will only show up if the utm_medium contains EITHER cpc OR paid-social, it will not show up on any page with the “jobs-recruiting”, “certification-review”, or “nurses-week” in the URL, it will not show up on the traffic from the campaign with the ID of 1407375679788661 or any traffic coming from the state-renewal banner.

    • Be aware if you are adding an AND or OR rule statement because those will result in different outcomes if you use the incorrect statement.

  • Once you have created all the rules, select “Done” at the bottom of the page

  • Then select “Done” again at the bottom of the next page

  • Once you have had the banner QAed for any spelling or grammar mistakes as well as the display rules checked that they are correct, you can go to the “Publish” tab in the top navigation and publish the banner.

  • If you want to save and leave, there is a “Save” button in the top left corner and as long as the banner has a pause symbol next to it, it will not be live.
