CMS: Kentico

https://www.wcei.net//Admin/CMSAdministration.aspx/default.aspx?action=edit&nodeid=2320&culture=en-US#

Schema/Structured Data Updates

You have to edit the HTML directly – using the Source button on the editable text region.

URL Optimizations

When optimizing a URL path for target keywords, we have access to update this in Kentico.

Kentico will automatically add the former URL as an Alias when the new URL is added.

How to:

Find your page that you want to update

URLs → Path Type → Standard URL or wildcard → Path or Pattern

Note from Silvertech:

So the Page alias was left as is and that is what is recognizing the former url.  The new URL was added to the Path or pattern which was previously empty (which means use the page alias) so both are recognized.  I believe changing the page alias also causes Kentico to add the former page alias url to the list under Page aliases.  If at any time Kentico does not automatically add to the page alias, you can check and add the former URL to the Page aliases manually

Pages Tile

*To confirm you are updating the correct page, select the page you would like to update, click "Properties" > "URLs" and check that the "Page Alias" and/or "Path or Pattern" matches the pages you would like to update. (There may be a better way to do this (?))

 Update Meta Descriptions/Title Tags/Page Keywords:

  1. Select the page you would like to update from the list on the left hand side.

  2. Once you have selected your page click "Properties" > "Metadata"

  3. Be sure that the check box next to "Inherit" is not ticked in order to edit.

  4. Under "Page Settings" you can update the meta title by adding text to the text box under "Page Title". Update the meta description by adding text to the box under "Page Description". Add page keywords by adding them to the text box under "Page Keywords" separating each with a comma.

Set Up Redirect via Navigation Redirects (Current)

First, select the page from the left sidebar that needs to be redirected.

Then click the 4th tab and select “Navigation”

Once in this tab, scroll to the “Menu actions” section, then select the “URL redirection” radio button.

Input the URL that you want this page to 301 redirect to, which can be done in 2 ways.

  • Preferred/Standard: Exclude the domain and use “~/urlPath”

  • If it needs to be redirected externally or use a full URL for any reason, you can include a full https:// path here as well

Example:

To make your changes live, click and Save and Publish. Always do a test of the redirect afterwards by clearing your cache or opening the redirected URL in an Incognito Browser.

**For WOW path pages, just press “Save” to push these changes live. You don’t need to press “Apply workflow”. **

Note: For Detail pages that are created dynamically

(i.e. https://www.wcei.net/courses/calendar/detail/1389/all), redirects will be unable to made here unless we there is a need to redirect the entirety of detail pages to a new path string. This would be an email to Silvertech.

Page Aliases (Legacy redirect process):

Aliases, what are they?

  • Page Aliases are not redirects, they are a way to enter multiple URLs for the same page. The other page can then not exist in the Kentico content tree.

  1. To set up a Page Alias, select the URL that you want the old page to redirect to (this new page is where you set up the redirect). Find this page on the list on the left hand side of the CMS.

  2. Click "Properties" and click "URLs" and then "Add A New Page Alias"

  3. Standard URL > Enter "Path or Pattern"

  4. Use Site Settings

  5. We don’t add UTM's so don't use URL extensions

  6. The "New URL Path" should redirect to the page you initially selected.

Setting up Redirect for deleted/no longer existing page (Legacy)

  1. In the Pages application, navigate to the destination (home).  On the Properties drop down tab at the top, select URLs

2. At the bottom of the URL properties, will be a section titled Page aliases showing any existing aliases.  To add a new alias, select the Add new alias button.

3. On the Add new alias form, 1) Leave the path type as Standard URL or wildcard, 2) path or pattern is the url being redirected (/courses/paper-applications), 3) Alias redirection can be left as Use site settings (default) as this will do a 301 to the destination page and update the URL.

  2. Make sure both "Edit" is selected, and the "Page" tab is selected:

3. Scroll down to a text section with a dashed border around it (it will probably be the first one).

4. Click within the box and a formatting toolbar should appear. Click the "Source" button.

5. H1's and H2's etc. They will have brackets differentiating them in the source code I.e. <h1>Header 1</h1>

6. Update your header within the brackets.

7. Click "Okay"
